Revell relishes match atmosphere

STRIKER Alex Revell admits it’s a hoary old cliche — but says the New York Stadium crowd really can be the Millers’ 12th man this season.

At Don Valley, you could often hear a pin drop and from a player’s perspective it was often difficult for the crowd to have an affect on the game.

That was unlike hostile old Millmoor — but now the atmosphere is back by the bucket-load with new ground designed to maximise crowd involvement.

Revell believes the fans will have an important part to play in the team’s fortunes.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's New York Stadium league opener against Burton Albion, he said: “It’s great for the club to be back in Rotherham.

“It’s great for the fans and it’s nice to hear them singing in the stadium for a change!

“At Don Valley it was difficult. In a game sometimes you need the fans.

“For example, we were at Burton last year, we had unbelievable support and it got us back into the game. That’s really important — it drives you on. Maybe it shouldn’t and we should be focused on the game, but when you get that little extra incentive it does help.

“It’s massive cliche but the fans can be a 12th man for you.”

Now Revell, who turned down a move away this week, is champing at the bit to play his part in Steve Evans’ new-look team.

A solid pre-season means the feelgood factor on the terraces is replicated in the dressing room and that’s exactly why the Millers are favourites to climb out of League Two.

“It comes down to us, the gaffer and everyone at the club,” he added.

“We want to get a winning team here week-in, week-out. If we do that we’ll get people back; if we don’t then it’s our own fault. So it’s all down to what we do.

“It all starts now for us.

“We’ll take massive confidence from the pre-season outings. Even in the game in Parkgate, it was a good game for us to have, and we’re pleased with the way everything has gone so far.

“Now we have to take it into the league, starting against Burton this weekend.”
