Point in right direction for Millers

ROTHERHAM United inched nearer to Championship survival after an entertaining goalless draw with Nottingham Forest.

An open game saw both sides create enough chances to take the points, with the Millers coming closest in the second half when Richard Wood hit the bar.

The draw stretched their unbeaten run to nine games and with MK Dons only managing a draw at Preston, Neil Warnock’s men remain nine points clear of the relegation zone with only four games to go.

Attacking with confidence, Rotherham had the better of the opening exchanges . Wood couldn’t capitalise on a teasing cross from Greg Halford and it was another defender, Joe Mattock, whose deflected effort forced the back-pedalling Dorus de Vries to tip over.

Desperate to end their wretched recent run of form, Forest finished the first half the stronger, with Robert Tesche, Ryan Mendes and Dexter Blackstock causing some uncomfortable moments for another big home crowd. The visitors also had yells for a penalty turned down when Ben Osborn went down under a challenge by Stephen Kelly close to goal.

They carried their good work into the second half and had a great chance to break the deadlock only for Henri Lansbury to slip when clean through.

There was still nothing between the teams and the Millers came on strong again as the half unfolded. Derbyshire went close with a dipping volley from distance and centre-half Wood could have had a hat-trick, crashing a header against the crossbar and then nodding into the ground and over from close in. Substitute Danny Ward went close on the turn but Camp came to the rescue late on with a superb, low save after the dangerous Mendes wriggled through.
