Plenty to prove, says Mullins

SOME serious thinking and hard graft away from the hustle and bustle of a matchday has been the key to Rotherham United's upturn in form.

For a long time, manager Andy Scott has rued his players' failure to carry their good work on the training ground into matches.

A return of six points from six shows they're beginning to put that right and according to Player of the Season contender Johnny Mullins, it's down to practice and determination, starting from the back.

"As a unit, we look a lot more solid," he said. "We've done a lot of work on it and it's coming to fruition.

"Richard Naylor has a lot of experience and is a very wise head in there but all the defenders have been working hard in training; people like Ryan Cresswell, Mark Bradley, Dale Tonge, Scott Griffiths and Michael Raynes.

"We've worked hard as a back four but it's not just about us, it's about the central midfielders and with the two lads up front (Shaun Harrad and Alex Revell) working so hard, it gives us a platform to build off and squeeze up behind them."

Added Mullins: "People haven't been happy lately and rightly so. A club of our stature in this league shouldn't be in the position we were in. We've had a couple of good results and we're back nearer to where we want to be. We've spoken a lot about it and there's a feeling within that we want to prove to people that we are good enough."
