New boss targets play-offs

NEW Millers manager Andy Scott launched into his new job this week with the goal of leading the club back into the play-offs—and eventually to the Championship.

Appointed only on Wednesday, the former Brentford chief will be plunged straight into a must-win match at home to Hereford United tomorrow as Rotherham look to get back on the promotion pace after a run of only one win from nine.

And while making no rash predictions, the new man certainly has not written off the season with five games to go.

He said: "There's 15 points to play for and if we get them then we finish in the play-offs.

"Historically, an average of 72 points gets you in the play-offs. That's four more wins for us, so we can still do it, but we have to start tomorrow.

"There's no time for standing back and lettings things happen. I've got to try and make an impact and get a first win under our belt and then go from there."

Scott, who led Brentford to the League Two title a couple of years ago before being dismissed in February, said he was delighted to be joining such an ambitious and progressive club.

"The vision is to take this club and maximise the opportunities and the facilities," he said.

"It's not so long ago it was in the Championship and there's no reason why it can't be again. The way it is structured it is all set up to be up there.

"The club is in an enviable position with finances and the new stadium is something to be excited about but we have to get results on the pitch."

Scott, who has signed a three-year contract, will continue to work with the existing coaching staff.
