Naylor ready for challenge

THE basement holds no fears for new man Richard Naylor as he sets about making a mark with Rotherham United.

For a player whose played his football in the higher leagues at the likes of Ipswich, Leeds and most latterly Doncaster, life in League Two could be something of a culture shock for the 34-year-old.

Not only is there windswept Don Valley to cope with, but trips to the likes of Dagenham, Burton and Gillingham in the coming weeks will give another him another grounding.

In signing Naylor until the end of the season, manager Andy Scott said he was the type of strong character who could get you a result at Southend on a Friday night.

The centre-half may get the chance to do just that at Roots Hall in three weeks' time, and having got a got a taster as a non-playing substitute against Swindon on Saturday, he says he's ready to step into the breach.

He told the Advertiser: "I've played on a lot of league grounds and now I'm going to notch up a few more in the lower leagues. I've no problem with that. I enjoy playing football and I enjoy getting stuck in, so it will suit me.

"Saturday was my first sighting of League Two really; I've never watched much. It's up and at 'em and we need to keep the ball better but there's some good players here; I've seen that in training and we've just got to take it onto the pitch.

"What I bring is experience. I've been around a long time and hopefully I can pass that on to the rest of the lads and communicate and try to get us in a good shape."
