Millers skipper: 'We're getting there'

SKIPPER Danny Harrison says the new year could bring better things for Rotherham United, insisting: "We're close to where we want to be."

For a team that went into the season with designs on automatic promotion, a spot outside the top seven at the midway point is a disappointment.

And while they've been able to overcome lesser opposition, Monday's win over Bradford City being another example, a paltry points return against the better sides shows manager Andy Scott still has some work to do to produce a team that can consistently challenge at the top.

Harrison is not privy to exactly what the manager is planning in the January transfer window but does see grounds for encouragement.

He told the Advertiser: "We all know we've got to start beating the top teams but someone is getting close to being on the other end of the complete performance off us. We're close but we're not quite there. We've rectified some of the mistakes we were making early season. I think it's just that one thing we can't put our finger on but we're close to where we want to be.

"You can see little things like Gareth Evans has come back into it having had a little lay-off and is still finding his fitness. There are people all over the squad who can come in and do jobs if required. Everyone is champing at the bit and the platform is there to push on."
