Millers size up bid for striker

ROTHERHAM United are poised to make a fresh cash bid for a striker.

Having seen a move for one forward foiled at the 11th hour last week when the player concerned received a better offer elsewhere, manager Steve Evans has turned his attentions to another goal getter.

He met chairman Tony Stewart yesterday to talk about tabling a bid which, if successful, would be around the current transfer record of £150,000 paid out by the club.

Evans told the Advertiser: "This guy is in his early 20s and he's currently with a Championship club. He's had experience of League One and he's got a Premier League background.

"There's three or four more teams at the table for him so we'll see how it goes."

If he joins, the latest target would become the Millers' tenth signing of the summer, with an 11th in prospect if a long-term loan can be finalised for another young striker, mentioned previously by Evans, later this month.

Millers goalkeeper Jamie Annerson is talking to Blue Square Premier outfit Stockport County. A couple of fresh enquiries have also been made for Danny Schofield, although neither had been followed up and the experienced midfielder was back in training with the first team squad this week.
