Millers pegged back at the death at Ipswich

A LAST gasp strike denied Rotherham United a first away win of the season on a frustrating day at Ipswich

Leading 2-1 through Danny Ward’s double, new boss Kenny Jackett was seconds away from his first win in charge when David McGoldrick netted from distance in stoppage time.

It was hard on the Millers, who defended resolutely throughout and had travelled to East Anglia on the back of seven straight defeats.

Captained by Richard Wood in the absence of the injured Lee Frecklington, they were caught napping after only two minutes when they allowed Freddie Sears to sneak in at the near post and turn in a free-kick from Tom Lawrence.

Ward’s first of the day had Rotherham level within five minutes, pouncing to score after the home side failed to clear Joe Newell’s corner.

Jackett watched his side defend well up to half time, the biggest danger dealt with when Lee Camp beat out Myles Kenlock’s header.

The Millers went in front within three minutes of the restart when Ward met Will Vaulks’ long throw with a super volley to make it 2-1. It was his eighth goal of the season.

Ipswich pressed in the second half without ever really convincing and every time they threatened, yellow shirts were on hand to clear until McGoldrick tied the scores with a thunderbolt off virtually the last kick.
