Millers keep eye on transfer market

PROMOTION-chasing Rotherham United are prepared to add to their squad for the crucial last few weeks of the season.

Once tomorrow's match at Peterborough United and Tuesday's home date with Brentford is out of the way, manager Steve Evans will assess whether reinforcements are needed.

The transfer window reopens next Thursday, offering a chance to make some final tweaks for the remaining eight games of the regular campaign.

“We want to make sure we've covered all bases,” Evans told the Advertiser. “If we're in the play-offs, it will extend the season by two-and-a-half weeks and we need to have enough bodies for every position in case of suspension and injury.

“But as I've said before, we won't be carrying passengers and anyone who comes has to be capable of playing a big part in the weeks ahead.”

The Millers' 12-match unbeaten run goes on the line against Peterborough, the match marking Evans' 100th competitive game in charge.

And with title contenders Brentford in town on Tuesday and Bristol City to follow at the New York Stadium next Saturday, it's an important eight days.

Evans added: “Twelve months ago these games would have been cup ties for us. These are a massive eight days and if we can get a good points return then we can end them looking up rather than down."
