Millers braced for pitch battle

ROTHERHAM United are being primed for a pitch battle as well as a footballing battle at Colchester United tomorrow.

Due to the weather, the U's have not played for nearly three weeks and with more heavy rain forecast, they have splashed out on covers to try and get the game on at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The enforced break hasn't just been tough from a financial point of view. Mid-table Colchester had been in decent form and their manager, Joe Dunne, is in the running for the League One Manager of the Month award for January.

The weather won't affect Rotherham's plans, with the squad due to travel south today for an overnight stay as they chase a fifth win in six.

Millers chief Steve Evans told the Advertiser: "Colchester is always a difficult place to go and the pitch is not great, as our supporters will see, but they've been playing excepionally well. Joe Dunne has got his best players back and when you do that you're going to have a chance of winning football matches.

"They're stronger than when we drew with them here and we'll need to be ready. Although it will be a completely different kind of atmosphere to last weekend, it's just as important. You get the same reward for beating Colchester as you do beating Leyton Orient."

Skipper Craig Morgan is back available for Rotherham after an injury lay-off.
