Millers back to winning ways

CARETAKER manager Darren Patterson steered Rotherham United to a 4-2 win over Macclesfield Town at Don Valley Stadium tonight.

Leading 1-0 at half time, the Millers held off a spirited effort from the visitors in the second half to bag the points in their first match after Andy Scott’s sacking.

Macclesfield hit the post early on through captain Tony Diagne but Mark Bradley opened the scoring on 36 minutes when he nodded inside the far post from Danny Schofield’s cross.

Ben Pringle made it 2-0 on 52 minutes, burying a shot into the corner after being set up by Kieron Cadogan.

The visitors’ luck was out again when Matt Smith hit the outside of a post but the striker headed in on 65 minutes to put the match back in the balance.

Rotherham responded quickly with Alex Revell’s tenth goal of the season, a sweet angled strike, but a Lewis Chalmers penalty had the home supporters on edge again.

The match was settled on 77 minutes when the on-loan Cadogan tucked in his first goal for the club after Pringle’s initial effort hit the woodwork.
