Mattock eyes away tonic

DEFENDER Joe Mattock wants Rotherham United to consign a heavy home defeat to history by conquering their travel sickness this weekend.

Millers fans who follow the team the length and breadth of the country were spoiled during the two promotion years.

They feasted on ten away wins in League Two and 14 in League One. Gleaning points at big Championship grounds is another matter altogether and 23 away matches produced just three wins last season – two of them at relegated Millwall and Wigan – and Rotherham have managed just a couple of successes in 13 attempts this time around.

Saturday's jolt at the hands of QPR will ensure minds will be back on the job for the trip to Cardiff City and Mattock says the experience from that game shows the Millers can't afford the least hint of complacency as they look to become a tougher proposition away from the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

He told the Advertiser: “At home we look very positive in our play, we move the ball about well and have terrific wide players. When we go forward we look like we're going to score, we look a threat, so if we can conquer our away form it will really help us out.

“It would be terrific for us to go to Cardiff and pick up three points, it would really kickstart us again because we went into the QPR game thinking we were going to complete six points from two games.

“You can't be complacent because QPR have quality in their side, they are Premier League players and they will make you pay, their three goals came out of nowhere.

“That result gave us a kick up the bum so we have to really knuckle down right for this game.”
