Louise targets Rio place

SPRINTER Louise Bloor is hoping to put a nightmare start to the outdoor season behind her by this weekend qualifying for the Rio Olympics.

The 30-year-old goes in the 200m at the British Championships in Birmingham despite her build-up programme being wrecked by a “devastating” small stress fracture in her back.

The injury was diagnosed in March just at the outdoor season was starting, hot on the heels of a blistering indoor campaign which brought new bests at both 60m and 200m.

But even though she’s had just a month of training, Louise is optimistic that she can claim the GB team place in the 200m — needing to hit the tape first and lower her previous best by 0.11 seconds — and stake a claim for a place in the relay team.

“It’s only a small fracture and we’ve been able to turn it round pretty quickly with the help of British Athletics,” she told the Advertiser.
