Lewis sets his sights on place at 2016 Olympics

UP-AND-COMING pole vaulter Lewis Billam is aiming high .  . . he wants to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games!

Lewis (16), who lives in Bolton-upon-Dearne, is studying Sport and Physical Recreation at Dearne Valley College and is a member of the South Yorkshire youth pole vaulting team.

He has competed in numerous events and has a number of  tournaments coming up in England and Europe.

Lewis has been pole-vaulting since the age of 13 and now trains three times a week at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

He said: "My immediate aim is to continue my studies at DVC and then study the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching at the college with a view to going to university.

My other ambition is to train hard and compete in various competitions for qualifiers for entry to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games".

Dave Merris, DVC sport and physical recreation tutor commented: “We would like to wish Lewis all the best with his forthcoming competitions and his aim of competing in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.”
