Jordan gears up

A LOCAL bike racer is hoping to take his career up a gear by competing against 60 riders at major race tracks around the country.

Jordan Watling (21) is swapping his Yamaha R6 600cc for a bigger, meaner  Yamaha R1 1000cc in the hope it will suit his 6ft frame better, and in turn lead him to success at this year's televised Thundersport Superstock 1000.

Watling, from Conisbrough, has already achieved big things on the racing circuit, qualifying for the British Championships on a limited budget, with no pre-race testing and a threadbare team of just a few family members amongst his biggest personal conquests.

But his determination shone through then and it will have to again as he has set his goals for the year high and sees no reason why he can't achieve them.

He said: "I aim to win, or at least get podium finishes, that way I get exposure in televised races.

"It is such an expensive sport, so sponsorship is massive in terms of how far you can push on" added Watling.
