Here to work! No ‘Hollywooding’ for LA-based Gaynor ahead of big title tilt

JUST weeks away from the biggest test of his career, Rotherham's Chad Gaynor is leaving nothing to chance as he ups his preparations ahead of his English title fight with unbeaten Londoner Ahmet Patterson.

Gaynor has swapped his familiar Yorkshire training base for the tough gyms of Los Angeles and promoter Dave Coldwell insists that his highly-touted charge is hard at work and not treating the trip as a holiday.

“It's easy to come to LA and get caught up with everything that's going on but Chad's mind is 110 per cent focused on Patterson,” promised Coldwell.

“He hasn't once let the atmosphere here get to him and he's gone into every training session and attacked it with serious purpose. September 12 is a huge night for him and I'm convinced that it's the fight that puts him on the map. Patterson is a good kid with a firm reputation but he's also facing the biggest test of his career.

“These are two young hungry lads going for it and that's why Chad is leaving no stone unturned as he prepares for it.”

The inaugural show on Matchroom's brand new Fight Pass, “In the Line of Fire” is being promoted by Coldwell and the welterweight belt clash is a superb main event to head such a launch. Both fighters have flirted with domestic title class with both holding notable scalps on their ledgers.

The trip to California symbolises the importance of the bout to Gaynor and the man guiding his career believes it's a move that will pay off handsomely.

Added Coldwell: “The sparring over here has been second to none and it's something that Chad needed because he needs to be at his best in this fight. He's been in the Wildcard gym and that's a place renowned for tough sparring and he's also been pushed hard in the Box n Burn gym too. There are plenty of styles to choose from in there and Chad has handled himself brilliantly whenever he's been pushed. This fight can open so many doors for him so I'm delighted we've been in LA as it gives Chad the best chance of winning.”

The show is at iceSheffield on September 12 and tickets are now on sale.
