Goodison's frustration

PAUL Goodison insists he will be sailing angry at London 2012 after a battle with his Olympic rival at last week's Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta left a bitter taste in his mouth.

The 34-year-old heads into London 2012 looking to retain his laser crown from Beijing, and got a sneak peek as to what to expect as he took to the Weymourh waters 50 days before returning for the real thing.

However, it wasn't the warm-up Goodison was after as he agonisingly missed out on the podium in fourth, Australian Tom Slingsby taking the gold.

Slingsby has won every event held at Weymouth since the last Games and looks set to be Goodison's main threat for that Olympic crown.

But Goodison, who did a similar thing before topping the podium in Beijing, is vowing to get one over his rival when it really matters, especially after what happened last week.

"In the medal race I handled everything really well round the first mark, then me and Tom got a bit further in front of everyone else and I though it was all quite easy then," he said.
