Surprise visitor for ‘ton up’ Millers fan

DEDICATED Millers fan Reg Stevens enjoyed a late birthday visit from one of the club’s promotion heroes.

Rotherham United midfielder Ollie Rathbone  dropped in to Broom Lane Care Home to wish Reg a happy 100th birthday.

Ollie presented Reg, who turned 100 on August 17, with a card signed by the Millers squad to commemorate the milestone.

Son Jim recalled how his dad, a father of three, grandfather to five and great-grandfather to nine, had taken him to his first Millers match when he was just five.

The former Territorial Army member (above left and inset), originally from Dover, met his late wife Alice while stationed in Thrybergh during the Second World War. He went on to work for Parkgate Iron and Steel Company for many years.
