DEADLINE DAY: Millers hoping for a flurry of activity

TRANSFER deadline day is upon us and with it comes a plethora of rumours and a flurry of signings for clubs up and down the country.

At the AESSEAL New York Stadium, manager Alan Stubbs is hoping to get several deals over the line to bolster his squad following a shaky start to the Championship season.

Last weekend's 4-0 derby defeat at Barnsley highlighted the need for new recruits and Stubbs admitted after the game that the club's search for new players could intensify on the back of that result.

A striker has to be top of the list, with only Danny Ward and Jerry Yates as recognised forwards in the Millers' squad.

Tom Bradshaw, Adam Armstong and several others have been linked and then not signed over the summer, but when the window slams shut at 11pm tonight (Wednesday), clubs will not be able to make signings until January under new league rules, making squad depth all the more important.

One target, Millwall's Lee Gregory, is believed to still be a possibility while Bolton's former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine has also been linked in recent days.

The Millers have landed 11 new players so far this summer.

In terms of players leaving the club, Stubbs has said he would like to get a few out, either permanantly or on loan.

Aymen Belaid, Tom Thorpe and Richie Smallwood have all been linked with moves away. However, we believe that the latter at least will still be with the club following tonight's deadline.

Whatever happens, it is sure to be an interesting day for the Millers that could shape the rest of their season.
