BREAKING: Lions rebuff Millers' £1.2 million bid

ROTHERHAM United have reportedly had an offer in the region of £1.2 million turned down for Millwall striker Lee Gregory.

According to reports in the south this morning, the Millers have made three bids for the Sheffield-born marksman, who netted 27 goals last season for the Lions in League One.

The London club failed to secure promotion from the third tier last season, prompting Championship clubs to take a keen interest in the 27-year-old.

It was reported late last week that Gregory had handed in a transfer request in order to force through a move, but this is something the man himself has denied on social media.

Millwall manager Neil Harris told the London media: "Rotherham have bid for Lee but the club have turned it down. And just as importantly — more importantly — we have 100 per cent not received any transfer request from Lee Gregory.

"In these instances things get out in the press that aren't always true. It's not nice for anyone but Lee is a senior player and knows that sometimes things like that happen.

"Lee is a boy who wants to play at the best level he can and he is happy playing for us. I had an excellent relationship with him last year and found a way to get the best out of him. I'd like that to continue next season.

"Lee is focused and training really well. We've had some excellent sessions in Portugal (on the club's pre-season tour) and we are focusing on our preparation and day-to-day business."

Millers boss Alan Stubbs told the Advertiser last week that a bid was in for a player that would "significantly" beat the current transfer record, the fee of just under £400,000 for Jonson Clarke-Harris two years ago.

However Stubbs — currently in Poland for the club's pre-season tour — refused to be drawn on the target.

It is thought Rotherham still have a keen interest in Walsall striker Tom Bradshaw and Brighton midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey.
