Concern as pitch numbers are cut

FOOTBALL pitches are starting to disappear across Rotherham as the number of adults playing the game continues to fall.

Grounds where football matches have been played for generations will stand idle this winter due to lack of demand.

Although the situation in the borough isn't as bad as in some areas and numbers have been holding up comparatively well, the call for facilities for organised matches generally is on the wane.

As a result, Rotherham Borough Council is to stop preparing and maintaining some pitches until there is sufficient demand.

You'll find all the details and which pitches are affected in today's Advertiser.
