BOXING: The Ingle Boxing Academy, breeding ground of champions, scored a string of victories at a recent amateur show at Greasbrough Club.

DEDICATION is the name of the game for keen young boxers at a renowned gym.

And among the clutch of Rotherham winners were Gabriel Nicola and Andreas Avgousti who, come rain or shine, make the 12-mile trip to Wincobank by public transport.

“These lads travel from Maltby a few days as week and  have done for over a year,” said gym manager Carl Luckock.

“They take two bus rides, one into Rotherham and the second one to the gym, and they are on time every single day. It's a credit to them — and what lovely lads they are.”

Gabriel carded his first win at the Greasbrough show, beating Zeeshan Khan (Huggys ABC) in the 55kg category.

Andreas marked his fight debut with a victory at 60kg level against Oliver Burton (Castleford Boxing).

Another first-timer, Kimberworth's Jay Marr, outboxed Kyle Eshelby (Hoyle Mill Police Boys) at 69kg and Callum Hannon bounced back from some losses to card a good win, getting the better of Abdul Hasseb (Phoenix ABC).

“We had seven fighters altogether and six won,” added Carl.

“It was a great night out, completely sold out.

“Rotherham sometimes gets a bad press but there are kids from the town like these doing good things.”
