Ben out of hospital after crash

CYCLE star Ben Swift’s flying start to the new season ended abruptly as he crashed out of the Challenge Palma race in Mallorca.

After sprinting to third place in the opening stage, Team Sky star Swift then fell heavily during a downhill section.

The 25-year-old from Rotherham was taken to hospital as a precaution where he underwent a precautionary MRI scan but was relased after an overnight stay.

Earlier, Swift took a podium place in the opening stage after edging out edged out the likes of Alessandro Petacchi, Francisco Ventoso and Jose Joaquin Rojas, being helped to third place by team-mate Bradley Wiggins, who was playing a support role in the race.
