Athletes in tribute to tragic Ralph

ATHLETES will pay tribute to Rotherham Harriers stalwart Ralph Rowbotham next week by putting their best feet forward.

Ralph, who died last month from a heart attack, was the man behind Rowbotham’s  Round Rotherham Run, having designed the course in the 1980s and watched it grow into one of the region’s leading events.

This year’s event, the 28th staging, starts at Dearne Valley College near Wath on October 16 with hundreds of runners—and walkers—expected to take park.

Said a Harriers spokesman: “Losing Ralph was a big loss because he was such a popular person and this is the chance for everyone to remember him.”

Entries are now being taken and start time will be 6am (walkers) and 7am (runners) with the relay teams setting off at 8am.
