ANGLING: Nothing fluky about Trevor’s track record

SOME anglers are born lucky, some not, some anglers think they're good, others just are so. Trevor Parkin is one of the latter.

If a few weeks pass when Trevor's name isn't among the winners — be it individual or section — it's only a matter of time before it is.

Last week was a week which proved to be even better than normal as Trevor claimed two victories, the first at Southfield Reservoir and the second at Elsecar.

When it comes to feeder fishing for bream, Trevor is up with the best.

His first success came in Doncaster DAA's match at Southfield when 23 anglers battled a cold, windswept day with surprising results.

Fishing peg 36, Trevor landed 16lbs 12ozs of bream for victory, beating match organiser Mick Axon, who fished at the adjoining peg 35 for 13lbs 14ozs, into second place.

Section winners were Roger Edmond, 6lbs 4ozs, Kenny Nolan, 6lbs 8ozs, Paul Atkinson and Steve Walker, both 2lbs 10ozs, Paul Lancaster, 1lb 4ozs and Tony Briscoe, 7lbs 10ozs.

Trevor's second success came the following day when he landed 7lbs 12ozs of bream from peg 20 at Elsecar fishing with maggots and worms at 50m, to claim victory there.

The man in yellow, John Kelly — another angler who is never far away — was second with 6lbs 1oz from peg 6 using his standard method feeder for two bream and a skimmer. Section winners Stephen Taylor, 5lbs 11ozs and Ken Griffiths, 1lb 9ozs.

A hard week at Lowfield Lakes, where the midweek match on the Riverside Lake saw a joint winner with Ben Fox and Shaun Daykin sharing the spoils with both anglers weighing 18lbs 10ozs.

Joe Sedgwick was third, just ounces behind with 18lbs 1oz.

Sunday's competition was held on the Main Lake where Steve Newsome took the honours with a 25lbs 8ozs net from peg 22. Son Sid was second with 23lbs 6ozs and the result saw Steve winning not only the match but also the final round of the knockout competition with Sid coming second.
