Alfie not for auction, say Millers

ROTHERHAM United expect Adam Le Fondre to be in their starting line-up for the big kick-off tomorrow despite mounting speculation he could be on the move.

The Millers have already turned down a bid of £200,000 from neighbours Sheffield Wednesday and a second offer of £250,000 this week.

Coventry City also came in with a player-swap proposal that was swatted away.

Rotherham are understood to want more than £500,000 for the free-scoring striker, who has scored 54 goals in two seasons since signing from Rochdale. The Lancashire club are due a 25 per cent of any fee as part of their sell-on clause.

Despite the fact that he can go for nothing when his contract ends next summer, the Millers are happy to hang onto player they still hope can fire them out of League Two.

Speaking to the Advertiser last night, Stewart said: "I will be amazed if Alfie is not playing for us on Saturday.

"We are not auctioning the guy, he's a Rotherham United guy and at the end of the day my view is straight-forward—if clubs can't afford to play the asking price then we can't afford to part with him.

"If we keep him and he goes on to score 25 goals this season then he will have done the job."

The Millers start their League Two campaign at home to Oxford United tomorrow.
