Treated with dignity and respect

A KIND and gentle lady who being born in June 1918 saw so many amazing changes in our lives, living through the depression of the thirties and going on to work during the Second World War in the munitions factory in Maltby a job she was immensely proud of.

This lady saw on such a scale progress that future generations may never experience making her such an interesting person. In January this lady, our auntie, suffered stroke and was admitted to the stroke unit and this began a journey that sadly led to her death on June 12.

Whilst in the stroke unit she progressed well regaining her speech but not her physical strength. At all times she was treated with dignity and respect and the staff and care was amazing.

From there she was admitted to the Oakwood Community Unit with the hope she would be well enough to go into a care home. Again here she was treated as an individual and as her family we were at all times included in her care. One particular time highlights her care in the Oakwood Unit she became distressed and confused due to an infection and through the night a member of staff sat with her for a while to calm her down.

Unfortunately her strength declined and because of pneumonia she was taken onto the Fitzwilliam ward. Here again she cared for with compassion and respect. Sadly this amazing lady passed away supported by the staff of Fitzwilliam Ward and also helped us, her family, to stay with her until her passing.

So we would like to say thank you so much to the Stroke Unit, Oakwood Community Unit and the Fitzwilliam Ward who never forgot that our aunt was a person who had lived a valuable and interesting life and treated her the utmost respect and dignity.
