Time to tell them to stick it, Bramley

YET again, it seems that Wadswoth Road is the target of developers. This time the intended site is that of the RMBC depot that used to house the refuse lorries and wood yard.

The developers propose to erect 49 houses of varying shapes and sizes and landscape the site. However the only points of access are via Wadsworth Road. Anyone that travels up Wadsworth Road is well aware of its size and state.

As one side of the street has no off road parking, the residents have to leave their cars on the road making it in effect a single road. Two cars have difficulty passing each other at any given point. This makes it dangerous when drivers are weaving in and out of parked vehicles.

The road itself is in a very horrendous state and looks more like a cart track with two very pronounced ruts. These can’t be avoided and throw you to one side or the other when driving down.

When the newest estate was erected on land belonging to the water board, it was extremely nerve-wracking watching all the lorries going up and down. Crossing the road was and still is very dangerous. In the event that planning is granted, which no doubt it will be, despite residents’ protests, the same will happen again.

At no point has anyone given thought to the residents and the impact this will have on them. If each home averages two cars that means an extra 98 cars coming up and down. There will be more noise, traffic and pollution whilst the site is being built.

The developers gave us the two people to contact by a certain date to view our concerns. Having tried to contact them on several occasions by email and telephone I had no joy whatsoever. In the end I have written to Strata in Doncaster airing my views.

Bramley is already extremely over developed and the traffic on Flash Lane has trebled. Imagine all the cars backed up on Wadsworth Road trying to get onto Flash Lane and down to the dual carriage way. This will also put more pressure on the local schools, doctors and other health centres to cater for the new residents.

I for one do not intend to take this ‘lying down’. Not one of the people involved in this venture lives near the site so has no perception of the grief it will cause. Yes I will be accused of the N.I.M.B.Y attitude but I don’t really care. It’s time we all stuck together and told those involved to ‘stick it’.
