Time to honour comedy great Eric Sykes

So--They've taken back Fred the Shred's knighthood. Perhaps it's time to consider giving one to someone who has brought joy rather than misery to millions.

Sixty years ago Eric Sykes wrote the scripts for top radio shows. Many of today's Heroes of Comedy who came to fame in the 50's and 60's did so with Eric Sykes' scripts.

He wrote more Goon Show' scripts - which influenced the comedians, who influenced the comedians, who influenced today's comedians - than did (Sir) Spike Milligan, although he has always refused to take credit for this.

His TV show Sykes was the top rated sitcom for twelve years, only ending with the death of Hattie Jaques.
