Steve's the right man for the Millers

Re the headline "For Evan's sake leave him alone" from the Graves page on August 24.

I was saddened to read that Phil Kyte had written a "non-too complimentary" article about Steve Evans and would like to try to redress this (even though I have not read the article).

I was a teacher at Thrybergh Comprehensive School for almost 35 years before retiring last year and I was asked by the year manager,Dawn Hopkin, if I could arrange for a "celebrity" to present awards and prizes at the year 11 prom. ( This was approximately two weeks before the event).

A friend of mine, a lifelong Rotherham fan, suggested that Steve might be available and, with his consent, he gave me Steve's number. I phoned him and he said he'd be delighted to come along.

Steve came to the prom and was absolutely marvellous. He presented the prizes and awards, signed autographs. posed for pictures with staff and students and spoke to everyone.

It was obvious he is passionate about his job at RUFC and everyone found him charming and approachable. I am also aware that he has spent time attending many functions to meet the people and supporters of Rotherham.Which other manager has done this?

Despite his past, I think the people and supporters of Rotherham will give the guy a chance and quite rightly. In my view he is the right man for the job AND a thoroughly decent bloke. I for one think he deserves to succeed and I wish him well.
