Shop closed because of council's attitude

IT is with some amusement and sadness I watch RMBC advertise my old shop on Corporation Street, with discounts and offers because it has been standing empty over six months.

On closure this was still a profitable business, paying full rent and employing two staff, who had to be made redundant. All I had requested for over two years was a name change on the lease to help reduce overheads.

I was slow timed and asked to pay over £1,400 in costs for lease renewal over three years followed by reassignment of the lease at council discretion! In the end because of the council’s appalling attitude i closed the shop, losing excellent staff at further cost. If council employees had to justify their financial existence they would not waste taxpayers money in this manner while pretending to encourage new business.
