School bus campaign success

SIr--On Saturday , June 30 I had the privilege to chair a meeting of the Droppingwell School Bus Action Group.

The meeting was well attended by parents, governors and local councillors. An outline of our concerns was presented, about not only the safety aspect of the decision by SYPTE to remove our school bus,but also the implications this would have on the excellent education the children receive at Blackburn Primary School.

After listening to these concerns, Deputy Leader Cllr Jahangir Akhtar took the floor explaining the original decision by RMBC to remove the subsidy for the bus was in line with national guidelines, but went on to say that not all policies matched on the ground common sense.

For that reason, in partnership with Blackburn School, they would be re-instating the bus in September until a more permanent arrangement could be found.

I think this goes to show that if you can motivate people to get involved for a common sense goal it is possble to change council decisions.

A big thank you needs to go to the organising committee, but also the local coucillors and the deputy leader for their support.
