Road will get worse

YOU have recently published a couple of letters regarding the state of the road surface on Beaconsfield Road.

I sent an email to the council in July and received the following reply. “Streetpride’s primary objective is to ensure that Rotherham’s roads and footways are maintained to the nationally recognised safety standards. This is achieved by my colleagues in Network Management, Street Works Enforcement carrying out safety inspections on a cyclic basis.

"As part of the long term maintenance plan I carry out condition surveys on all Rotherham roads/footways, which gives me the condition and a suggested treatment. I then use this information to produce my maintenance programme. The maintenance programme is also influenced by the budget structure, which is broken down to fund treatment type and road classification.

"I have checked to see if Beaconsfield Road is on my 2012/2013 works programme and I regret to inform you that it has not been included. The condition information for this road has prompted it to be added to the list of roads for consideration at the next works review meeting, which is October 2012.

"At this meeting I will be consulting with colleagues to produce my 2013/2014 programme of works.

Mr Stephen D Finley (AIHIE) Highway Asset Management Principal Engineer.”

Therefore it would appear Rotherham’s road users will have to contend with the condition of this road. We can also look forward to a further deterioration, should we have adverse weather in the coming winter.
