New recycling rules 'ridiculous'

Please see below my email of complaint which was sent to Rotherham Council regarding the new cardboard recycling rules.

I'm sure other residents feel it is ridiculous

"I would just like to register a complaint about the new green bin and cardboard recycling facility.

"We are a family of four and on every two-week cycle both our bins (green and black) are full to the top. There are often times when we have to take additional rubbish to the tip and already strongly disagree with the fact that our black bins are only emptied on a fortnightly basis.

"Overflowing bins attract rodents into the area and so we are forced to take additional trips to the dump to dispose of any excess rubbish.

"We have two dustbins outside our house, a blue plastic box and a small blue bag.

"The blue bag is usually full of paper and now we are supposed to also fit all our cardboard rubbish into it.

"If we can't fit it in we are expected to flat-pack it and just store it around our house until the fortnightly collection requests that we then place it all under our blue bag for collection. This is absolutely ridiculous.

"This is going to result in rubbish just blowing around the streets making it an eyesore. There is absolutely no way under this scheme that people are going to continue to recycle cardboard

"It will go in the general waste with everything else. We are already expected to go above and beyond to help the planet and recycle our waste but this is just a step too far and will make people not be bothered.

"I for one will no longer be trying to flat-pack cardboard down and try and fit it into my blue paper bag. We already spend too much time separating out all our waste.

"We also go one extra and recycle our plastics but if the council cannot be bothered to provide a sensible and suitable solution to recyclying why on earth should we bother.

"This will also in future go into the general waste and be landfilled. The council should be going out of their way to help people recycle but seems to be making it so hard to do it that people will no longer feel it is worth their effort."
