Market rules should be for all

ONCE again Rotherham Borough Markets Department comes up trumps.

Where is the loyalty for the long stay family business traders? There is no loyalty from the council at all, they just keep ruining businesses for the hard working traders of Rotherham market. Once again, they are just not bothered.

The management is a laugh a minute. It’s a split market nowadays. I am not racist at all, but the council and market department make it very obvious who they prefer, as I stated earlier in this letter they come up trumps again with 1) Saturday market: several stalls plus have been privately rented to another Asian trader at £10 a stall —another kick in the teeth for the long standing traders. 2) Extending the Thursday market: privately again this market has no rules to stick to. Over loading sockets on stalls, calor gas bottles being used, cooking food — where is the safety and hygiene in this? Health and Safety is nowhere. The markets’ reply is it is “not in their hands” Who suffers? The long hard working long standing traders who stand all weathers. The disgusting mess left for traders on Friday is just unreal, and we get the blame.

3) Sunday trading: Was there a license for this Asian market to happen? Can it be shown? The council must be raking in money underhand. What will the mess be like for Monday traders? Probably the same after Thursday — pretty disgusting, take my word.

A long standing trader left recently, hounded out by market management and from his letter writing he was spot on with everything.

Please print this letter; people need to know what the Rotherham Borough Council does to hard working, long standing traders.

I cannot leave any more information relating to the above. I just think people of Rotherham want the market (people’s market) to continue but as one rule for all, not two sets of rules.

Rules should not apply to colour but once again the council choose what happens.

A very unhappy trader of Rotherham Market
