LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Angst on the buses

MUST say I had a chuckle about the article in the Advertiser about our fabulous bus service (Use it Or Lose It). Would that we could.

Once upon a time we had three buses an hour, then it changed to two an hour. Now, due to Covid, we are down to one an hour when they run.

So how can we use the bus if it is constantly currently out of service, not running or otherwise taken out of service and put on another route?

Two Sundays ago the 137 didn’t run all day. Fabulous — use it or lose it.

Passengers have now lost all confidence in the service and only try to get to town in an emergency or if they have plenty of time to waste standing on the street in the pouring rain awaiting a service that may or may not turn up.

I am sure that, if they really wanted, First could have the best job in the world if it wasn’t for those damn passengers.

So how are they going to figure out which buses to cancel? After the X service buses have been left alone which ones vanish never to be heard of again? Is it mine or yours? Still, it will give us plenty of fodder to use when we are having one of those conversations; you know how they go: “Do you remember when .......?”
