Letter: People in glass houses...

I DIDN’T think my letter to the Advertiser on April 15 would bring in the kind of letters that were written by Cllr Caven Vines and an anonymous person.

However, I will try and reply to both letters, and because I don’t know whether the anonymous writer is male or female, for easiness I will refer to the writer as Mr Anonymous. I sense, however, that it was written by one of Caven Vines’ cronies, as although Mr Anonymous accused me of quoting from the two Wickersley Ward leaflets, his comments to me are very very similar to Cllr Vines’ remarks.

On the subject of the two leaflets, I make no apologies or excuses, because I did quote from the first leaflet, the reason being that I know everything in there was true. I personally didn’t have a problem with that, but it obviously upset Mr Anonymous.  I could have jiggled the words around and said exactly the same things as in the leaflet, but why would I have to do that? I find putting it in my own words but saying the same thing is more dishonest than just quoting from the leaflet, as I made no attempt to hide that fact. I was pleased though that Mr Anonymous read the leaflet, and I’m sure he learned a thing or two.

Your next point was about people not being able to get appointments at the doctors, as I had stated in my letter, that Cllr Hoddinott was trying to ensure that people could get access to local GPs. I think you were trying to blame Cllr Hoddinott by saying that there were 110 people who had not kept their appointments with the nurses, and a further 54 had not kept them with a GP, but it sounds as though all of these people did actually get appointments, it was just that they were inconsiderate by not cancelling them, thus preventing other people getting in to the surgery. I can see where you are coming from by saying people should be charged £5 when they book an appointment, repayable when they attend, but I don’t really think that is the way forward, and would cause far more work for the receptionists. Luckily the surgeries have practice managers to sort that kind of problem out.

Finally, both you and Cllr Vines have wrongly assumed, and you have not checked your facts (a trait Cllr Vines does all the time), as to whether I am related to Cllr Rose McNeely in the Boston Castle Ward. The answer is, no I am not related to her. She has my surname and belongs to the same political party, other than that I have nothing in common with her.

As to Cllr Vines’ letter, I have already answered his comment about Rose McNeely.  He then goes on to deny something I printed by saying it was rubbish. What a lie this is. It is for all to see in the Advertiser dated April 8, Page 19, and I quote from the Advertiser, “UKIP hopes to field 50 to 60 candidates” and goes on to say “we’re hoping the European elections being on the same day, might help us, as the general election did for Labour last year”. Only 41 candidates were fielded and as it says in the Advertiser, you did say the European Elections were on the same day. The only person you let down Cllr Vines when you lie, is yourself.

In closing, I would like  to say that if I were you Caven, I would think carefully the next time you are thinking of criticising someone, remember that people in glass houses really shouldn’t throw stones. Is it not you, awaiting a date to attend the High Court in London?
