It’s Prom time!

WINTERHILL Prom, Class of 2013 — the night to end five years at “big school”. A night of glamorous dresses and fancy cars, fitted suits and a non-alcoholic bar, ecstatic greetings and high energy dancing.

A night of final goodbyes, the end of school time, the night to end those five years of mine.

So Prom is now over. On June 27 many girls (and guys) awoke looking ahead for the evening of glamour, sophistication and elegance at the New York Stadium.

With my excitement at peak point I needed to prep myself for the night that lay ahead, and with a day of prep lies ahead nails, hair, make up, bag, shoes and, of course, the dress.

The weather took a turn for the worse but spirits soared as Prom approached and the social networks buzzed with expectation for the night, happiness and excitement hit me as my mum surprised me with having my hair and make up done by the wonderful Becky and Christie at Xtreem Salon.

Today was the day to give everyone I knew a great and final thought of me as we all went our separate ways.

As time seemed to drag on it hit me that this was the final time of my friends and I being together with the people we’ve grown up with,

five years with these people and tonight was the night that it became final, as we were pushed onwards and upwards into our futures.

The time had come to wait for the ride to the New York Stadium. Prom was soon to start and I watched my friends get out of this amazing VW Camper Van and an array of cars fit for celebrities the likes of which Rotherham rarely sees, with my friends all poised and ready for photos from our family members acting like the paparazzi.

When we arrived the flow and bold colours of the dresses was simply dazzling, bringing glamour to the drizzly day.

The venue was decked out in simple silver and white, the balloons proudly declaring the class of 2013, and after the oohs and aahs thrown around, complimenting people’s attire so unusual and rarely seen, it was time for the highly anticipated awards, Prom King and Queen this year being Josh Berry and Beth Harcourt

Categories for other awards included Most Likely to Become a Millionaire won by my friend Jordan Williams, along with Most Likely to be Famous, won by my friend Kamol Meesri,.

Proud head teacher Mr Burman said: “This shows how fantastic the students are and they take it seriously, seeing them enjoy themselves and how it has all been about success and celebrating. It’s an important rite of passage for the students.”

Once the awards were over, it was time for the real party.

The flood of people hitting the dance floor had begun; the songs of our time and the songs that got us dancing like The Time Warp and the inevitable cheesy dance songs like the Cha Cha Slide and The Macarena only added to the fun and enjoyment.

Not forgetting the songs from the Prom archives guaranteed to make everyone get on the dancefloor and dance like no one is watching.

All this leading up to the last dance, aptly titled I’ve Had The Time Of My Life.

Never before have you seen this much hugging and such genuine well wishing between so many people. It was such an amazing night that was worth all of the effort.

It seemed every person there had loved the Prom and believed it was worth the wait, saying that it was a once in a lifetime experience and absolutely exhilarating for everyone involved in this rite of passage.

Each person there had shown that other people matter.
