Council failing to protect the vulnerable

Sir - I read time and time again in your newspaper that Rotherham Borough Council say they will protect the vulnerable against Government-enforced cuts.

Bold words from a council which pays its members more than Sheffield who are a much larger council.

Their words mean nothing when they chop a half hour essential cleaning allowance from a direct payment to old, disabled and vulnerable people.

Two social workers told me that they 'had received instructions from managers' that no-one should be granted the essential cleaning allowance.

After complaining I was told that it was always their policy not to allow this. This is obviously a lie as they have withdrawn it from clients.

The Cabinet Member when told I would write to the Advertiser said ' let her, I'll give her the address' . Seems the Council hold no fear of the Advertiser!

Well Mr Cabinet Member you obviously need the many £3-50p you have withdrawn to fund your own inflated salaries.

I hope you are proud to take our cash when so many are struggling to maintain what little is left of their dignity. Please withold my name as I don't want further penalising.

Name and address supplied.
