Care home was the best ever

Sir—I have to complain about your article on the Abbey Care Home in Rotherham (see Advertiser, May 11).

Have you ever had to use a care home? I researched 20 care homes in the Rotherham area when my nan needed one in 2005. Previously she had been in Park Lea care home from 2003, which was the best.

The council in it's wisdom closed it down, which broke my nan's heart and we feared it would be the end of her being forced to move.

I would have looked after her myself, but I lived in a one-bedroom flat on the third floor.

My nan was the most precious person in my life and finding the right care home was paramount.

As I said, I visited 20 in the Rotherham area and would not have put a pet in 90 per cent of them. Unfortunately, I did not visit the Abbey Care Home, but I wish I had. I would have placed my nan there without reservation.

The Abbey is the best care home I have ever visited. My mum, who had a really bad experience at a Sheffield care home in 2009, spent three nights at the Abbey this Easter and absolutely loved it.

The staff quality of care is second to none at the Abbey. The facilities and rooms are of the best I have ever seen. Your article, for whatever reason, has caused irrevocable damage to the wonderful work that all the staff at the Abbey do. Shame on you!
