Bassingthorpe Farm wrong place for development

Sir -  Having attended the meeting held by Rotherham's planning officers at Greasbrough Town Hall in connection with the Bassingthorpe Farm urban extension, I noted the extent of the desecration of agricultural land.

This has already been hugely depleted by the building of four estates in the area and yet more will only create urban sprawl.

No break in communities led to the riots on the Blackbird Leys estate in Oxford not so long ago.

Is this what we want for Rotherham?

It is evident that Wentworth Estates are in favour of building on green belt land and therefore would it not make more sense to build on the land behind their offices at Wentworth which does not house historical buildings.

There would be easy access to Rotherham and, more importantly, to the much better jobs market at Dearne Valley and Barnsley.
