Asian market is great with misgivings

I VISITED the new Asian Market for the first time yesterday.

It was wonderful to see every stall in the market being used, quite nostalgic in fact. It has been many a long year since our markets thrived.

It was also like visiting a foreign country and I enjoyed it immensely.

However, having said all that, I have certain misgivings.

On traditional market days, Monday, Friday and Saturday, only half the stalls are taken.  Any Asian in Rotherham wanting to rent a stall does so on those days. Why can’t the Asians organising the special Thursday Asian market rent the vacant stalls on those days? Is it because they are not Asians resident in Rotherham and district?

If so, this means that money being spent by Rotherham residents is being taken out of the area and not being used for their benefit.

Rotherham residents have always been a tolerant bunch and immigrants have been on the whole absorbed peacefully. This is integration. Pandering to a special Asian market is practising segregation and as such is wrong

I realise that the council will benefit from the revenue involved and that this will ultimately benefit Rotherham residents but this is not an acceptable excuse. It is still segregation and segregation can never be right.
