Yorkshire Bank to close Parkgate branch

YORKSHIRE Bank will shut the doors to its Parkgate branch for the final time later this year as part of a raft of closures across the country.

The bank — the scene of an attempted armed robbery in January — will be one of nine branches to close in Yorkshire and 26 across the UK.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Bank would not reveal details of job losses but said staff at Parkgate would be found roles at other branches “wherever possible”.

The branch will close on July 27 and the bank said its customers’ accounts would automatically transfer to its Frederick Street branch.

Steve Fletcher, head of customer banking networks for Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank, said: “I understand this will not be welcome news for those who use this particular branch.

“These are difficult decisions but ones we must face as we try to keep up with the pace of change in the way people want to bank.

“We have to balance our investment to ensure we support demand where it is greatest, across mobile, online and branch services.

“Branches remain vitally important to us, and we continue to invest in them, the services they offer and when we offer them.”
