POLICE have claimed that instances of antisocial behaviour are down for the time of year thanks to a series of special patrols.

November 4, usually one of the busiest nights on the force's calendar, passed with little upheaval as officers continued their work as part of Operation Impact—completing outreach duties with young people and deploying Safer Neighbourhood Teams on preventative patrols.

Superintendent Martin Hemingway said: "There have been some instances of antisocial behaviour, but incidents and damage are slightly down compared to last year."

Local Commanders across South Yorkshire reported that police received slightly fewer calls than during the same evening last year.

Doncaster and Barnsley were busiest areas, with 60 incidents each, while Rotherham had

34 incidents of low level antisocial behaviour and Sheffield reported 12 such incidents.

"Generally it has been a very positive evening despite a small number of incidents. Our overall purpose is a positive one—to help people enjoy themselves safely and to prevent problems but we will take strong enforcement action against anyone who puts other people's safety at risk," added Supt Hemingway.

Operation Impact continues throughout this week.
