Wedding couples hit as Wath hotel owners vanish

THE new bosses of a popular wedding venue have been fielding a barrage of calls from worried brides after the previous managers disappeared without warning.

Glynn Atmore, who stepped in at short notice to take over the Sandygate Hotel, Wath, says he has spoken to 54 brides so far.

But Glynn (55), who also runs the Horse and Groom in Goldthorpe with his daughter Samantha, says he will do all he can to make sure events which have been booked will go-ahead.

“If you have an event booked please do get in touch and we are open for business,” he said.

The building is owned by Trust Inns, but the previous managers, David and Dyan Elliott, left suddenly after stripping the pub of equipment, memorabilia and the bookings diary.

David Elliott (46) said that the couple had no choice but to leave after "astronomical overheads and beer costs" meant that they could no longer afford to run the business.

He said: "We had no intention of robbing anyone or doing anyone over. A deal for Mr Atmore to buy the fixtures and fittings was going through right until the Friday before we left, when he pulled out.

"We carried on taking bookings because we believed that the deal would go through and that he would take on the deposits.

"We feel that we have been pushed out and that the whole thing was a conspiracy."

We'll do everything we can to make sure special days go ahead . . . new manager's pledge to wedding couples. SEE THIS WEEK'S ADVERTISER.
