EIGHTEEN contestants took to the stage at the Best Western Concert Hotel last night, as they auditioned for The Rotherham Advertiser’s talent competition Yorkshire's Got Talent.

EIGHTEEN acts took to the stage at the Best Western Concert Hotel last night, as they auditioned for The Rotherham Advertiser’s talent competition Yorkshire's Got Talent.

A mixture of singers and dancers strutted their stuff in front of a panel of judges and an audience of 150 people in an attempt to claim a place in the competition final in two weeks' time.

Nine contestants were put through to the final and they will be joined by another nine finalists, who will be chosen at the second audition this weekend.

Heat two will take place this Sunday November 20, followed by the final on Sunday November 27.

Tickets are now on sale for both events, which will be held at the Best Western Consort Hotel, Thurcroft. -

Tickets for the heat cost £5 and tickets for the final, which includes entertainment from last year’s finalists as well as established performer Adam Lacey and the Gillian Banks Theatre School, are £7.

Doors open at 6.30pm at the heat and  at 6pm for at the final.

A DVD of the final will be also available to buy at £10.

The talent competition winner will receive a professional recording session on CD or DVD, courtesy of The Music Factory plus a cash prize.

Second and third places will also receive a cash prize, and the winning acts will receive a trophy and will represent the Rotherham Advertiser at all public events.

Ashley Gore

Ashley, the only male in the competition, sang Free Falling and accompanied himself on guitar to accompany.

Competition judge Sarah Murray said it was a strong audition and good song choice.

Bethanie Reddy

Bethanie kicked off part two of the show with Adlle’s Make You Feel My Love.

Judge Andrew Barker said he was blown away with the performance and added: “If you’re not in the final, then I won’t turn up.”

Briony Tracey

Briony sang ‘Something Inside So Strong’.

Judge Peter Parkin said: " Briony has a nice texture to her voice and, despite a stumble with the words, it was a good performance.

Brooke Oscroft

Eight-year-old Brooke, the youngest contestant on the show, sang Who Do You Think You Are.

Peter Parkin was stuck for words and said: “That was an absolutely fantastic performance”. Gillian Banks added: “It was a confident and mature performance, well done”."

Dance group

The 14 girls in the Dawn Oscroft dance group performed a high energy routine.

Judge Gillian Banks said: “You gave that some real attitude, it was well synchronized and full of energy”, and Sarah Murray added “I couldn’t take my eyes off you, it was a really tight performance.”

Hannah McDonagh and Rhianne Logan

The duo were the second act to take on Ed Sheeran’s A Team.

Sarah Murray thought the acts would have been stronger as solo performances, and judge Gillian banks agreed and added: “Duets need communication, but it was a tough song to take on, so well done.”

Isabel Hague

Isabel performed Broken. Judge Gillian Banks said: “It was a dramatic, mature song to take on, but you gave it some real attitude and used the stage well.”

Madeline Laffoley

Madeline performed Adele’s Someone Like You.

Andrew Barker described the performance as “brilliant”, and Gillian Banks added: “You had a nervous start but your confidence developed leading to a strong performance.”

Megan Reddish

Megan sang Adele’s Make You Feel My Love.

Judge Gillian Banks said it was nice to hear her own interpretation of the song and Andrew Barker said: “That sent shivers down my spine.”

Natalie Newman

Natalie kicked off the show with a cover of Jessie J’s Price Tag.

Judge Andrew Barker said that Natalie set the standard for the night.

Olivia Payne

Olivia performed Hallelujah.

Andrew Barker said: “I couldn’t fault the vocals, but there was no emotion.”

But fellow judge Gillian Banks disagreed, and said she could feel the emotion through her vocals and it was a beautiful performance.

Rebecca Beedall

Rebecca performed the popular Ed Sheeran song A Team.

Sarah Murray said: “Singing a male song is hard, but you made the song your own.”

Shannon Burgin

Shannon sang Fire To The Rain by Adele.

Gillian Banks commented: “It was a big song to sing and it lost you in parts” but Andrew Barker said: “You sang with real attitude and it came out in your performance.”

Sharni Smith

Sharni ended the show with Hallelujah.

Peter Parkin commented: “You stumbled in parts but you deserve full credit for the effort you gave it." Andrew Barker added: “Despite a few slip-ups your voice really shone through in parts”.

Tia Trelor

Tia’s cover of Pull The Trigger by Rihanna left the judges “absolutely speechless”.

Andrew Barker said: “Tia is no stranger to the competition. I told her last year to come back when her voice had matured, and she’s done just that.

“The performance was flawless.”
