Waste fat sets Rotherham takeaway oven alight

FIREFIGHTERS are urging people to keep their cookers free of excess fat after an oven went up in flames at a fast food take-away.

Fire crews were called to the Snack Cabin on Middle Lane, Herringthorpe, after the oven caught fire shortly after 7am this morning.

A fire service spokesman said: “Staff were opening up for the day and had turned the appliance on but, when the oven got hot, the fat ignited.”

The fire was out by the time firefighters from Rotherham Fire Station arrived and nobody was injured in the incident.

The spokesman added: “Firefighters are reminding people to keep their ovens clean to avoid similar cooking-related fires.”
