Man mountain Nick Ducker — nicknamed “Tiny” — is considering an assault on the UK strongman scene following the gruelling load-lugging challenge at Herringthorpe Stadium.

The 25-year-old former Winterhill Comprehensive pupil, who stands 6ft 8ins tall, carried a stripped-out 360kg Suzuki Swift for more than a lap of the running track to smash a 407-metre benchmark set by fellow Rotherham strongman Mark Anglesea in 2010.

Describing the arduous feat which eventually put him on his back, Nick, of East Dene, said: “It was fun. But then I’ve been told in the past that I have a twisted sense of fun.”

Nick, who lugs loads on Rotherham Markets and is known as a stand-in for forklift trucks, added: “I went to a gym for the first time about 18 months ago and now I train five days a week.

“The aim is just to get bigger and stronger and hopefully go on to the strongman competitions.”

Nick’s trainer Martin Barraclough (41) came fifth at the Masters UK Strongest Man last week. The pair work out at Brinsworth’s Phoenix gym.

Martin said: “Nick’s just naturally big and strong. He has achieved in a year what it has taken me five years to do and he’s just going to kick on from here.

“My aim for him is to reach around 30-stone and get into the UK Strongest Man, from there it could be the World Strongest Man. Age is on his side and he just loves lifting weights.”

A crowd of people at Herringthorpe Stadium cheered on Nick during his record attempt on Saturday.

He recorded the car lift challenge from beginning to end and will now submit the footage and evidence of the 428.4-metre lift to the Guinness Book of Records with the aim of having it officially recognised.

The attempt also raised more than £400 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Martin said: “Nick did a great job. It took a lot out of him, but he showed a determination that should serve him well in future.”
