VIDEO: Man jailed after 150mph police chase with girl (3) in back of the car

A ROTHERHAM man has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after driving at up to 150mph — with a three-year-old girl in his vehicle with him.

On May 17, Thomas Birkbeck (31), of Silverdales in Dinnington, veered around traffic in his Audi A4 and collided with five vehicles after failing to stop on the A1 near Catterick.

But he was caught when his car was boxed in by police cars near Boston Spa.

Birkbeck was stopped for a minor traffic matter on the northbound carriageway of the A1 before driving off, York Crown Court was told.

He had £5,000 worth of cannabis in his car.

Birkbeck also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Sentencing Birkbeck, Judge Deborah Sherwin said that Birkbeck’s driving had been “truly appalling”.
