VIDEO: Bucks Fizz superfan Elaine interviews her idols

WHEN an opening emerged for an interview with three-quarters of Bucks Fizz before their first Rotherham show, we knew there was only one woman for the job.

Step forward Elaine Middlemast, who has to be the 80s pop legends’ most dedicated fan and is the reason they played to a sell-out crowd at the Civic theatre last Thursday.

We revealed in April that Elaine (48), of Clifton, had managed to get her heroes to Rotherham after three years of trying.

Original members Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston have parted ways with bandmate Bobby G, who still fronts a group called Bucks Fizz, and recruited former Sweet Dreams member Bobby McVay to perform as Formerly of Bucks Fizz.

The singers’ extensive career includes such highlights as winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with Making Your Mind Up.

Elaine helped to bring some fizz to the Civic for a date on their Make Believe tour after persistently asking the theatre and the group’s management to book one.

The Advertiser asked Elaine to turn journalist for the day and quiz her idols and, of course, she jumped at the chance.
